verameum:

I
occasionally overhear parents discussing ways in which their child is
exceptional, above average, a prodigy even in some respects. I understand the
instinct, but perhaps desiring and expecting excellence from young children may
not be setting them up for a smooth ride. In many ways, I want my children to
be normal, settled, and to focus on appreciating the simple joys that life has
to offer us all.
