Nostalgia. If you look back on the origins of it actually combines the greek words return/nostos and the greek word suffering/algos. Which in the end it means you’re suffering for the return of something. How funny that is. You don’t think of it that way at first. You walk into your childhood home and you can smell your parents cooking. You can almost see the memories. Whether they be good or bad. It’s so close and you don’t quite understand why you’re sad. Why you feel that tugging in your chest. Sometimes it’s a song. Or most commonly linked to memory is smell. How cruel it is to be able to yearn for something that no longer exists. Nostalgia is a real kicker in that regard. But then how could get to where you are if you don’t know the past. Nostalgia in a sense is a reminder of who we are. What we came from. What we are made of. Maybe it isn’t all so bad after all.
